Well put...a healthy body for a healthy mind as the old saying goes! The more children are encouraged to exercise and play sport the better for their health and their school work plus their social skills. Well done to leif time skills for the initiative, but parents please lay off the convenience foods and feed your kids good nutrition.

This does not surprise me. I write a series of children's books designed to get kids and families active. Recently we posed questions on our blog about the role of organized sports for kids, would love your input!

I'm very interested in this topic. I have a 16 year old who is overweight. My fitness career seems to have turned him away from healthy habits. I just got him a great bike, though and he is enjoying it. Who knows if he will make progress. Maybe we can link to each others blogs. Visit me at NancyGriffin.wordpress.com/About

"Mountain Sickness" happens alot with beginning backpackers in the Sierras. They drive up in the morning and want to tackle the mountain trails right off. This can be a big mistake if they are at elevation. The best way to avoid getting mountain sickness is to get used to the elevation gains SLOWLY. Go up the night before and get used to the thinner air before hiking....
